We are optimistic about our community’s future as we see projects and grant opportunities that are coming closer to becoming a reality. Our efforts to develop our strategic plan continues as we will have a strategic plan completed by the end of this year. Centralia College continues efforts to grow workforce training programs and new Mechatronics degree. The Industrial Park at TransAlta has completed infrastructure to Site # 1. All of these efforts are building our regional economy.

Community & Workforce Development

EDC Strategic Plan:

By the end of this year TIP Strategies will complete a strategic plan for our organization. Our organization expresses appreciation for all of those who have participated in this process through interviews and focus groups. We look forward to the release of this exciting planning document that will chart our future.

The plan will outline a way forward do the following tasks: Business Retention & Expansion, Business Recruitment, Marketing, Industrial Partnerships, Public Policy Initiatives, and Workforce Development. The strategic plan carefully considers our approach to economic development that is articulated in the way that we define economic development.

“Lewis County is building the economic health of our county by retaining and expanding existing basic employment and recruiting new employment opportunities. For Lewis County, this means focusing on the sectors where we have been the most successful and building on these areas with efforts to diversify the business sectors: glass, plastics, chemicals, forest products, health care, IT, telecommunications, food processing, and emerging businesses. The EDC focuses on those businesses that export goods or services outside the region and bring new wealth into Lewis County.”

Industrial Park at TransAlta:

IPAT has completed the construction of a roadway to site # 1. It is a 25-acre site and the first site that is pad ready.  The total acreage of site 1 is 150 acres. The construction of utilities funding by State and Federal grants have been completed. There are new completed water and sewer lines that run to the site. A newly paved two lane road also extends to the site allowing access for future industrial access. The site has been graded, positioning it one step closer to be ready for industrial investment.

Trade Show:

Our partners, the “Site Location Partnership”, attended the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago on our behalf. It is one of the largest industrial trade shows in the world with 2,407 exhibiting companies and 115,612 registrants. It is held on evenly numbered years and brings buyers and sellers from 117 countries. Large categories for the show include metal cutting, tooling & work holding systems, fabricating/laser/additive, and others. From this expo we gained 21 leads and are currently in the process of vetting them for further follow up.

Washington State Department of Commerce:

Washington State Department of Commerce business development visited our area last month. We invited the Department of Commerce to do a familiarization tour of our area. Allison Clark and Radi Simeonova of Commerce spent a day touring industrial sites in our area. We are seeing a significant increase in activity from Commerce and the number of leads that they are providing to us. Our working relationship provides great promise for our future.
