Recruitment and Business Retention & Expansion efforts have been a strong focus this last month for the EDC. There are several opportunities in the works for expansion of businesses. The common theme among businesses is the need for skilled workers as the labor market tightens. We are excited to partner with Moonshot to host “Smart Tank” an entrepreneurship event. Great opportunities lie ahead for Lewis County entrepreneurs.

Upcoming Events

Smart Tank

Lewis EDC has partnered with Moonshot an Arizona based organization to host our first start-up pitch competition June 8th and 9th. Aspiring entrepreneurs will vie for prizes and the chance to bring their ideas to the marketplace. We will be taking applicants via e-mail. Participants that move past the screening process will be invited to participate in this event.

Participants will meet with mentors and instructors all day Friday the 8th and will compete Saturday the 9th from 1:00pm-3:00pm. They will pitch their product to a panel of judges and compete for cash and prizes. Business Retention & Expansion

Willamette Valley Co

Willamette Valley Co. is a producer for the plywood and glue industry drawn to our area because of our abundant alder bark and our two hardwood mills, Cascade Hardwoods and Northwest Hardwoods. The company operates facilities throughout the Americas as well as Europe & Asia. They operate in diverse industries including wood products, railroads, concrete, molding, flooring, and agriculture. The business here mainly handles glues, paints, and putties for a myriad of industries and has 25 employees with plans to add 2-4 more jobs.

JR Furniture

JR Furniture is a Canadian company with furniture stores throughout the Pacific Northwest. Their facility was originally built by Circuit City. The building does not work for present day retail warehousing it sat vacant for many years. JR Furniture viewed Chehalis as a good location to serve their retail stores in Washington & Oregon and has now been operating here for three years. The location serves as both a warehouse and a retail store that is opened to the public and is a perfect place for the price conscious consumer to find needed furniture.
