Port of Centralia commissioners heard the results of the recent state audit of port finances for the years 2007-2008 at the regular port meeting held Dec. 16.
Executive Director Kyle Heaton reported that at the recent exit conference with state auditors, the port received no management letters, findings or recommendations. Heaton credited the continuing high quality of work by port commissioners and port auditor Amy Due for the favorable outcome.
Also at the Dec. 16 meeting, Heaton presented Don Meek with a plaque commemorating his 12 years as a commissioner and thanked him for his hard work and diligence during his tenure. Meek will be replaced by Dan Keahey as Port District No. 1 Commissioner beginning Jan. 1. Keahey was elected to that seat in November.
Port officers for 2010 were elected. They include Gene Groshong as president, Art Lehman as vice president, Dan Keahey as secretary/treasurer and Amy Due as deputy treasurer.
At the Dec. 2 Port meeting, Heaton reported that an expansion permit for Wild Blue is in progress. They are planning to add another satellite dish to the two that in place now, Heaton said, and the permit will allow them to have a total of up to five in the future. Wild Blue provides high-speed satellite Internet access across the country.
The director reported that Innerspace Systems has changed plans and moved to a larger building across the street from their current Midway Court location rather than expand into a second building that was next to their old facility.
Heaton added that a new client, Sayler Custom Controls, is moving into the building where Innerspace was planning to expand. It was formerly occupied by Allied Plumbing, he said.
According to their Internet website, Sayler Custom Controls, with offices in Wilsonville, Ore., specializes in industrial control panels for customers such as co-generation, small hydroelectric and geothermal projects, wind farms and grid substations.
In other port business during December, a snowplow that was recently purchased from Thurston County has been installed on a port truck, said Heaton. The total cost for the plow and mounting it on the truck was less than $1,000, he added.
Heaton noted that the snowplow wasn’t needed during the recent cold snap, but that there was some minor damage from frozen water pipes in a few locations.
Twin Transit has approached the port with a proposal to expand its bus routes into port property, Heaton reported. The commissioners agreed that more information is needed about planned routes and stops and liability before making any decisions.
The director reported that the port has an Internet Facebook webpage up and running. The page has a link to the port website as well as other local entities, he said.
Port commissioners signed a letter from the port to Dale Pullin, supporting the proposed Lewis County Event Center which would be constructed near Fort Borst Park.
