The New Year brings

new opportunities

for economic development

As the new year dawns, it’s a perfect time to recognize there will be new opportunities presenting themselves and we must be ready to take advantage of them as they surface.

Success is often defined as the point when preparation meets opportunity. Nowhere is that more apparent than in economic development.

As the global, national, state and local economics gain traction in the months and years ahead, companies that are forging ahead will be looking for growth and expansion opportunities. Lewis County will be high on the list of attractive sites with its available industrial land inventory, a transportation infrastructure network that includes interstate access, mainline rail and air facilities, and a desirable location central to the all important Seattle and Portland markets, as well as routes to eastern Washington and several Pacific ports.

Planning for these upcoming opportunities is essential to making sure we are ready to continue our success with economic development in the future. Proper zoning, adequate infrastructure, solution-oriented public employees and visionary leadership will make all the difference in the world.

No one knows exactly what the new year will hold. One thing we can be sure of, however, is that it will present new opportunities. We must continue to be prepared so we can intelligently move forward with the opportunities we desire and reject those that don’t fit our community’s values and vision.
